Shakespeare Through Movement is a three-day day workshop that gives students a different way into Shakespeare’s amazing work… through physicalization! Students learn the importance of rhythm in Shakespeare’s work, gain vocal tools (tempo, rhythm, timbre, pitch) when speaking Shakespeare themselves, learn the history of how Shakespeare used music and musicality on stage, are introduced to Shakespeare’s First Folio, and explore how actors use punctuation when creating a characterIt’s a great addition to the Shakespeare Prep Workshop, or can be a stand-alone workshop for students interested in theatre.

These are the steps we take to make Shakespeare ACCESSIBLE.

What We Cover:

PERFORMANCE

Students start by watching a live performance by professional actors of selected Shakespeare scenes.

SCANSION & RHYTHM

Students learn about iambic pentameter and how to break down the rhythm used by Shakespeare.

MOVEMENT

Students use Shakespeare’s punctuation to bolster their understanding of his texts at a kinesthetic level.

FIRST FOLIO

Students learn about Shakespeare’s First Folio and examine how actors use Shakespeare’s punctuation as a road map when rehearsing and performing a Shakespeare play.

*SONGWRITING

For musically inclined classes, students build different song elements to create their own song inspired by Shakespeare’s words.
