- Exploration of practical tools for professional application
- A first-hand discussion about the world of independent film-making
Make Your Own Short Film is a three-day workshop that allows students to gain familiarity with the art of film-making. Students learn the challenges of writing, producing, filming, and editing. Students leave with a completed short film, entirely of their very own making.
Below are the steps we take to make this workshop ACCESSIBLE for students of any age.
What We Cover:
WRITING A SCREENPLAY
From concept to creation, students learn how to structure and produce a working script.
FILMING
Students film their scripts, learning the process of acting, directing and producing their own work.
EDITING
Students learn the basics of editing, using iMovie or Microsoft equivalent.
SCREENING
Students SHARE their completed short films!
POSITIVE ASSESSMENTS
Students learn the process of offering and integrating constructive feedback in collaboration with other film students.

What is the format of this workshop?
We use an online platform of your choice to bring Teaching Artists to your school virtually. Students have to opportunity to work with two or more Teaching Artists allowing for more personalized attention and a lower student-teacher ratio.
How do my students prepare for this workshop?
Good news! Your students need no preparation before starting this workshop.
How long is this workshop?
All online workshops are adjustable in length to your specific class period or after school program. We can offer recommendations based on your class size and experience level.
Will there be a showing of the short films created in this workshop?
We believe sharing our artistic creations is important. A “premiere” of all pieces will be shown at the end of the workshop.
Can this workshop be in person?
Due to current Covid 19 restrictions, all workshops are online. Hopefully, we’ll be able to come to your school in person soon!
