Creative Writing and Shakespeare  is a three-day workshop that allows students to learn about the fundamentals of Shakespeare’s writing, using these tools as a springboard for their very own Shakespearean sonnets! This is a perfect workshop for students interested in expanding their creative writing while learning about the work of Shakespeare.

Below are the steps we take to make Shakespeare ACCESSIBLE for students of any age.

What We Cover:

LIVE PERFORMANCE

Students watch professional actors perform Shakespeare live.

ANALYSIS & COMPREHENSION

Students learn about scansion and the various rhetorical devices that Shakespeare employs. Students analyze the context of scenes, look for contextual clues, and learn how actors interpret and define what’s in a script.

WRITING

Students learn about the structure of Shakespeare’s sonnets and write their own sonnet from a Shakespearean character’s point of view.

SHARING & FEEDBACK

Students share their sonnets and learn how to give and receive constructive feedback.

REVISE & PERFORM

Students integrate feedback and have the opportunity to create a final performance of their sonnet.
